Hi, I’m Dave, originally from Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, UK

Like many people in their early 60s, I reached a point and a crossroads where I started questioning whether the traditional idea of retirement in the UK was really right for me. I felt stuck in a rut doing the same thing over and over again and I thought how can I get off this wheel it was still another 5 years before I recieved my official State pension.

I had been redundant 5 years early after working for the local authority for 20 years and was working as a self employed table tennis coach when I came to this decision.  I wanted a better quality of life, a lower cost of living, and a bit of adventure — but I also wanted to make sensible, well-informed decisions.

I had thought about living abroad for a number of years. The idea of retiring abroad was exciting, but it was also confusing and scary. There was plenty of information online, but very little that was clear, practical, and written for people over 60 who wanted honest guidance rather than sales pitches.

That’s why I created this site - Retiring Abroad Over 60.

Why This Site Exists

When I was planning my own move abroad, I spent hours jumping between websites, youtube videos,  forums, and conflicting advice. Simple questions — about pensions, healthcare, visas, property, and everyday life — often had complicated or unclear answers.

This site is the resource I wish I’d found back then.

Everything here is based on real experience, careful research, and what actually matters when you’re planning a move later in life. I have had to deal and address most of these issues I have covered in this website. I try explaining things in plain English and focus on the practical details that can make or break the experience.
